The polymers reviewed in this report are polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polyvinylchloride (PVC) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). These polymers account for over 90% of the thermoplastics processed in the GCC.
The primary conversion of plastics (defined as the conversion of granules and/or powders), but also thermoforming and stretch blow moulding which link closely with primary conversion processes. Other secondary conversion steps, such as lamination, are discussed where relevant. Compounding is included as an important primary process and as compounds feed other primary processes, care is taken not to double count volumes.
Blow moulding, injection moulding, sheet extrusion/thermoforming, PE and PP film extrusion, compounding and masterbatch, wire and cable extrusion, pipe, profile, tube and hose extrusion, textile extrusion, foam, rotational moulding.
