Oriented PE consumer packaging films – the way forward for “single-use packaging”?

Single-use plastic packaging has caused significant global concern. While reducing unnecessary packaging is crucial, replacing polyethylene (PE) films with alternatives can often worsen carbon footprints. PE films efficiently protect and contain products with minimal material use, though combining them with other materials can complicate recycling. However, recent advancements in mono-material PE films, like BOPE and MDO-PE, have made recycling easier and gained popularity among consumers and policymakers. Despite this progress, Europe's plastic industry faces challenges like decreased consumption, production declines, and investment drop-offs. Yet, the growing focus on sustainability, especially among younger generations, offers hope. Innovations and collaborative efforts could make oriented PE films a key player in achieving sustainability goals globally.
